Dia De Los Muertos

If you live in or near the Nashville, TN area, be sure to check out the Dia De Los Muertos show opening next Tuesday, 11/2. The show takes place at Octane! Gallery inside Kustom Thrills Tattoo (remember my feature in Prick Magazine on them a few years back?).

One of my stone lithographs (hand drawn and pulled) will be on display in the show. Be sure to check it out and all of the other great artwork!
And don't forget to mark you calendars for next February, 2011. I have a solo show at this gallery complete with photographs, a sweet installation, and books!

October things

One of my absolute favorite things about the fall season is all the available pumpkin foods. I LOVE pumpkin! Pumpkin pie, bread, muffins, bars, ice cream, doughnuts, icing, cream cheese, bagels, pretty much anything pumpkin. Apparently one of the first things I asked Skip when we first started dating is if he liked pumpkin foods. He said he went along with it but really had no idea what I was talking about. Now he does. I just can't pass any of them up during this time of year. One of my favorite (savory) things to make during the season is my pumpkin stuffed shells. They are delicious! Do you like pumpkin foods?
This weekend we had big plans for a day trip out of town. Unfortunately things fell through, but we ended up keeping busy anyways of course. Country Living Magazine brought their yearly fair to Atlanta this year, so we decided to check it out. We watched a glass blowing demo...
... and did some shopping. I kept my shopping budget small, and came home with a few small items. A vintage gold glittered Santa, a vintage pumpkin die-cut, a little vintage plastic wishing well, a vintage glittered Christmas lantern, two battery powered candle sticks, and a little plastic pine tree... I really wish I had bought more of those trees, and can't find them online anywhere. If anyone spots them somewhere, please let me know!
Next on the agenda is figuring out what to carve on my pumpkin this year. This was mine from last year... A mad Swamp-o' lantern! We've moved since last Halloween, and I can't find my printmaking carving tool set which is what I used to carve this one. So, my pumpkin this year is white and I'm without fancy tools, so it will need to be something simple. Any suggestions?
The weather here is still fairly warm (and perfect!) for this time of year, and the leaves are just now starting to change. I wish this weather would last forever. It's the kind where you can wear short sleeves or a light sweater and be comfy either way. Hope you're having a great October!

And finally, here's a few links to photography articles I've written recently. Check them out, they are season appropriate!

Custom wreaths

I've been making specialty wreaths for about 5 years now. I don't make and then sell them because 1: they require a lot of time, and 2: it's not my main thing, photo stuff is. BUT, I do take custom orders. This year I'm getting the word out early. They make great Christmas gifts! They are also wonderful for a sweet housewarming hello. Wreaths are available in two sizes: small and large. I create each one from scratch especially for the recipient. Tell me your desired theme, we'll go over some design specifications, and then after creation you'll receive your one-of-a-kind piece.
small size- woodland themed
small size- northern winter themed
The first one I made, 2005(?), with my little Swampy front and center
large size- a southern woodland/ owl themed one
large size- a Vegas gaming/ rockabilly themed one

I take custom orders for these any time of year, but in order to receive yours before Christmas, orders must be placed no later than Friday, November 12th. Prices start at $45. Please email me for more details, or to place an order: blondeshotcreative(at)gmail(dot)com

PS- Don't forget, today is the last day for my week long sale. Get the details here.
